March Madness, Photo a Day, Day 19

Day 19. How about a historical moment?

Switzer Covered Bridge, in Switzer, KY (near Frankfort), is 120 ft. long and 11 ft. wide.  It was built by George Hockensmith around 1855, restored by Louis Bower in 1906, closed to traffic in 1954, and listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1974.

  1. and it was re-restored after the 1997 flood moved it off it’s foundations and flattened it against the bank. I have pictures of it somewhere…lord only knows where. Looks like they did a bang up job on the restoration! She’s gorgeous once again!!!
