April! Photo a Day, Day 40

Day 40.  A little bit of history……

Built in 1877, Colville Covered Bridge is in Bourbon County, KY (near Paris).  It is 140 ft. long, 18 ft. wide and spans Hinkston Creek.  It was restored by Louis Bower, Jr.*  in 1913 and again by his son “Stock” in 1937.

It was entered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, extensively damaged by floods in 1997, removed in 1999, restored in 2001, and is one of very few covered bridges that can be driven through.  I hope you take the beautiful drive through rural Bourbon County and enjoy it too!

*His grandfather George Hockensmith built the Switzer Covered Bridge.
